Shenzhen: the Silicon Valley of hardware
<aside> 🏭 5 days. 15 factories. 24 founders. Shenzhen.
In 5 days, 24 founders walked into 15 factories and company headquarters, leaving with quotes in hand, WeChat contacts, and a community of passionate hardware builders in Shenzhen they can call on.

You can prototype hardware from the comfort of your garage but when it's time to ramp up production you need to get serious about manufacturing.
You might have heard “Shenzhen lets you move 10× faster,” it’s not a myth. By being in Shenzhen you can simply drive to the factory the instant you hit a speed bump or something goes wrong to sort things out in person. Meeting suppliers face-to-face helps iron kinks in communication and establish trust much faster than across the ocean; you can get deals and pricing you won’t get in the U.S., sourcing parts 2× cheaper and 10× faster, and procure components factories don’t typically sell to U.S. customers.
Being in Shenzhen dramatically changes how you build and even what you can build.
However, building trust, finding the right manufacturing partners, navigating language and cultural barriers takes a lot of doing.
We started Future Factory because we’ve seen too many great founders hit that wall. What began as bringing friends into factories has grown into a practical program to help you move from prototype to production without getting stuck. We’ve now brought 40+ founders to Shenzhen. (Since the summer of 2025, we’ve seen an increasing amount of U.S. founders establishing their base in Shenzhen to manufacture, hire, and build local teams. Physical AI wave is moving fast!)
Our goal at Future Factory is to help founders get:

Our December trip was robotics focused!
In robotics we saw: Reducer → motor → integrated joint → limb → full platform, and platform → data collection → iteration → deployment. In consumer electronics we witnessed: PCB → enclosure → injection mold → assembly line → QA → packaging → distribution.
We bring a healthy blend of manufacturing ecosystem deep dive + cultural exposure + business connections when you come to Shenzhen.
You get to experience the 9-9-6 week first hand on our trip - our schedule is super packed!!
Note: Many of the factories we visit don't allow photos, and some are referred to by acronym to protect their IP. What you read here doesn't do it justice - come see it yourself. Also, we kindly ask you to not share any of the writings and pictures below without permission - thank you!
